Lesson Excerpt:

Do you remember learning about place values for whole numbers? Now let’s look at place values for decimals.  To start with, all we’re going to do is put a decimal point in the whole number 791524.  Like this:  791524.62713

The place values for the whole number are quite easy:

7 = hundred thousands

9 = ten thousands

1= thousands

5 = hundreds

2 = tens

4 = ones or units

But what about the decimals?  Decimals are just another way of writing fractions.
