Lesson Excerpt:

The octopus belongs to the mollusc family along with snails, oysters, clams and mussels.  The mollusc family has a number of sub-species.   The one the octopus belongs is called the cephalopods.  Cephalopods means head to foot.  The name fits the octopus very well since its feet are attached to its head! Octopuses can only live in salt water so they inhabit the oceans and are not found in lakes or rivers.
